As if going to school four nights a week wasn't enough; I can now add 2ND Grade Head Room Mom to my list of things to do. I have always wanted to be a room mom. Growing up, I could always count on my mom being at all of my classroom parties. It was a special treat to get to spend extra time with my mom at school.
I am envious of moms that are able to be apart of classroom activities. I have always thought that because I work, I can't be as involved. I have decided to say "screw it" to my working mom guilt and will be more active with my kids at their schools. They're only young once, right?
I am even more excited to learn that the school will be having a Halloween Party, not a vague and politically correct "Fall Party". I will be bringing SCARY to second grade this year!! I have searching for party ideas and games on the internet. Quite frankly my brain is on overload with all of the info..I'll take any suggestions and opinions, but so far I have:
I'll start off by handing out name badges that have a Halloween thing on it such as: Bat, Ghost, Frankenstein and Witch. This will divide the kids into teams for the relay race.
RELAY RACE (Consisting of 4 kids per team):
First leg - Mummy wrap, 1 person will be designated the mummy and wrapped by the rest of the team.
Next - Once wrapped they will have walk across the room while holding a spoon carrying a gruesome eyeball (ping pong ball)
Finally, they will have to "bob for a doughnut" that will be hung via string from the ceiling.
My dilemma...should I have only one child go or have each child take a turn? I think that it will be really fun and for each child to get the chance to participate.
STORY TIME:
Has anyone ever experienced one of the Halloween stories where food is used as body parts? As the story is told, food is passed around? I remember this being one of the greatest things done in a Halloween party. I found a story: "My Dear Lamented Friend" Here's a little excerpt from the story:
John was a jolly man with a great big gut.
Let’s pass around his intestines, just your luck!
Fresh from the grave, wet and cold
Just a little slimy, just a little old.
Twisted and shriveled in a bunch
Just like they were after his lunch.
(Pass cold cooked spaghetti)
I am still debating whether or not to incorporate a craft, but I think I may have some filler games such as Pumpkin Hunt and jar filled with candy that the kids will have to guess. I have so many things running through my head, but I'm afraid that we'll be short on time. We will still need to eat our treat too! I have decided to go the easy route; picking up Halloween cupcakes from the grocery store.
I don't know who's more excited, me or Patrick?
