Down time

As active as I like to stay, I really do enjoy a lazy weekend. That is just what I had this past weekend. I think it was well deserved. This was one of the first weekends in awhile that I haven't had homework due or a paper to write. It was nasty and rainy out so that meant no baseball games!!

Over the last couple of weeks we (meaning Eric) finally installed the french screen doors that have been sitting in the garage since last September. In the spirit of fixing things, I motivated myself to clean out the garage, and in doing so I hung 9 shelves...okay, well I tried to. After Eric helped me hang the first one as an "example" I proceeded with hanging the shelf below. I was in the squatting position far too long and my knees were on fire. As I stood up it was my typical fashion that I smacked the top of my head on the "example" shelving. Even though it's covered in a thin layer of white plastic it still hurt like a son of a gun. I was so glad the kids weren't around to hear mommy drop a few f* bombs. Either Eric heard me and felt bad for me or he really needed the drill to finish hanging the door...either way he came in and helped me. Go team Manlove!

I was really surprised with my husband's motivation because afterwards he fixed the kids play set. A certain little boy (whose name sounds like Patrick) hit the play set while riding around on the zero turn some time ago. The then "unmotivated husband" did not fix it right away; the weather and kids took its toll on the play set. Then, when a certain mom tried to climb the ladder for our afternoon picnic or to play (who knows)..the ladder broke off and down I went on my butt, but still holding the ladder.

So needless to say I was not surprised when Quintin and Wyatt were screaming hysterically for me to get off the play set after it was fixed.

I didn't know what to do with myself this past weekend. I ended up playing video games with my boys. It was a flashback from 1989; I was showing my kids how to play Super Mario Brothers. They were amazed to know video games were invented when I was little. It was like riding a bike...the addictive tendencies quickly came back, and I found myself hoarding the Wii. I also caught myself snapping at the kids "Ah! Stop talking to mommy while she's playing...dang it...you made me die!! I was so close to beating Bowser, now I'm going to have to start over!!" I probably could have shut my bedroom door and gone the whole weekend without anyone seeing or hearing from me, but when I stopped playing I realized my thumbs hurt. Really, I'm not kidding, I think I bruised the padding on my thumbs...
