Weekend

My weekends are typically busy...I always have the boys in some sort of sports activity which usually falls on Saturday mornings which is also Cleaning Day in our house. This past weekend I asked Eric "Do you want to take the boys to Karate or clean the house?"...he quickly responded "Come on boys, lets get your shoes on!!" I kind of figured that would be the answer, but as a Love & Logic parent...you give choices. (Yes, it works on spouses too!)

It was gorgeous outside. I opened the windows and went to turn on my Sirius Satellite Station...and as I was scrolling thru the Guide I noticed that Juno was on. I love this movie! I did set the DVR to record it, but I figured I could "listen" and clean at the same time...oh how wrong I was...A half an hour later I found myself sitting in my recliner holding my can of Endust and towel...not much cleaning got done. I decided since I did set the DVR I could come back and watch it later.

After the cleaning is done you can usually find me baking cookies. I'm a total Cookie Monster. My favorite is a plain jane Chocolate Chip cookie. My mom is an avid baker. My mom & I have a saying in our house(s): "I may not have all the ingredients for dinner, but I can guarantee that I always will have the ingredients in the pantry to make a double batch of chocolate chip cookies." That's how I grew up and that's how my boys are being brought up. I didn't know any different. I was shocked to learn that not everyone does this.

Even more so was a few months ago when my mother-in-law called me to tell me her recipe for one of Erics favorites, Red Velvet Cake. I told her that I had picked up the missing ingredients on my way home. As I read off the ingredients that I had bought she told me that she was sorry that she forgot to tell me there was Buttermilk in her recipe. She felt bad because now I'd have to go to the store. "Oh, don't worry about it...I keep buttermilk in the fridge!" She was a little surprised...but when you bake as much as I do you keep that kind of stuff on hand.

The boys and I made cookies the other week to send to my LBB (little big brother) Jamie. He's currently in New York working at a resort for rich kids...I mean a summer camp. I apologize Jamie, the cookies never got sent.

1. You'll see in the pictures.... and
2. We ate most of them before they cooled off.

Future Bakers of America. I had my own double batch, but each of the boys had their own bowl.

Okay, well technically Quintin and Wyatt shared. Their batch was a little heavy on the chocolate chips.

This is one of the reasons why I didn't mail them, but I did contemplate that fact that if there were any germs they would probably be killed while baking.

Patrick is concentrating very hard here...

After I took this picture I decided that maybe we shouldn't mail these to Uncle Jamie....I also took into consideration Patrick licking his spoon in the background.

This is what the cookies looked like before I put them in the oven...I did help Patrick even them out and separate.
