Six Flags

I decided that since the new school year was fast approaching, Patrick should have summer fun. Plus the fact that Patrick has been bugging me to take him to Six Flags for almost 3 years now. I kept telling him..."after I have the baby (I was pregnant with Wyatt)...then a year later...after I have the baby (pregnant with Quin)..."

The St. Louis Six Flags has a great promotion going on right now, 6 Visits for $36. I couldn't resist. I bought our tickets and I took a day off last week. I knew that Eric wouldn't want to go because he'd have to associate with other people and possibly stand in a line for more that 10 seconds...he's the impatient half of us. My sister also took advantage of the deal. We decided to make a day of it. I hadn't been to Six Flags in at least 6 years. There were so many new rides to go on and plus they now had a water park.

I'm the type of person that likes to be prepared. So the night before I made sure that I had printed out a map of the park to get an idea of what had changed. I had also measured Patrick and scoped out all of the rides that he would be able to go on. I was hoping that I could get him to go on some of the roller coasters. I had my backpack filled with the essentials: Sunblock, towel, change of clothes, deodorant, extra pair of shoes/socks and some change. I even had our cooler packed with PB & J sandwiches, chips, snacks and water.

We were supposed to Emelie and the girls later in the day. So when we got to the park we had decided to get our pictures done for the passes. It was right next to Thunder River so we decided that's where we would start. There were no lines - at all!! We then proceeded to The Boss... I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. I thought, this won't be too bad...wooden roller coaster...a few hills..lets do it. Mind you I checked what rides Patrick could go on, but I didn't check the "Ride Category". Turns out its a MAX Thriller....of course there was hardly a line we waited maybe 15 minutes. As we waited I noticed that the people who came back did not seem to be crying or anything so I thought that was a good sign. I asked Patrick where he wanted to sit and he picked the back. We got in, the bar came down and we proceeded to climb the hill...seconds later we were off. I'm pretty sure I said a few inappropriate things on the first drop down. I'm here to tell you, I felt like I was going to fall out. This was a Roller Coast that dropped so fast that my butt came up off the seat. I could only imaging how Patrick felt, this was his FIRST roller coaster ride. I quickly grabbed onto his leg. The ride slowed down just enough for me to look at Patrick, hoping that he was enjoying his experience. When I looked down at him his face was completely white and full of terror...Poor baby...he told me that he didn't like this and then we went down another hill. If I could have taken his picture it would have looked like this:

It looks as if this picture was taken on The Boss. I'll admit the ride scared the hell outta me...I'll have to add to the list of "Be careful what you do...because you might pee your pants" list.. I'd have to say that this one is definitely in the top 3. As soon as we got off of the ride I told the kids we needed to literally run to the bathroom...

Here's another reason to add to my book of how raising boys must be different from raising girls.

Hopefully this isn't TMI, but it is funny. So we ran to the bathroom. Patrick came into the stall with me b/c he also had to use the bathroom. The following conversation took place:

Patrick: "Mom, you have your swimsuit on? Just pee in it!"
Me: "Eww!! That's nasty Patrick, plus I don't want to smell like pee all day"
Patrick: "You won't mom! Trust me, I do it ALL the time. I'm serious!"

So my son is apparently nasty. When I told Eric this, he says that's how little boys think. What?? Seriously??

I think after riding The Boss it will haunt Patrick for a long time...I was lucky that I got him to go on the Mine Train after that...we still have 5 more visits.

  1. Poor Patrick! The Boss was the last roller coaster I went on, and the last one I will ever go on. I definitely cried afterward.

  2. I think Patrick may have cried, but the speed of the roller coaster may have dried any tears before they hit his cheeks. We'll probably stick to the Log Flume and Thunder River...
