Phase 10

Life is getting back on track with school and all. I definitely needed the winter break. I found myself catching up on a lot of my television shows on the DVR. As well as movies. I am pretty certain that our family watched at least one movie every night of our break. I would like to say that I LOVE Netflix!!! It is great to have DVD's delivered to our house by mail, but now we have it streaming to our Wii and Blueray player. It makes being lazy even easier.

All of my favorite 80's movies available watch. (Non-stop if I wanted to) The other night I watched Peggy Sue Got Married . It has been years since I had seen this movie. It found it even more interesting to watch this time around. I had realized before that Nicolas Cage was in the movie, but what I didn't realize was that Jim Carey and Helen Hunt were both in the movie too! It was like watching Goonies and realizing that Josh Brolin WAS Mikey's older brother Brandon! Amazing!

On a side note, yes, I love to be lazy and watch television. However, I don't want my kids to watch television all day long. During our break I thought it would be fun to play games or cards. I introduced Patrick and Wyatt to "Memory" and "Phase 10". Phase 10 is one of my all time favorite card games. I have not played it in a long time. I am really glad that my kids are getting to the age where they can now play. I shouldn't say that I haven't played in a long, but I should say I haven't played Phase 10 with Eric in a long time. This is due to the fact that my husband literally stopped playing card games with me. I'm not too bitter about it, but the last time we played he got made at me.

Winter of 2000:
Katie: "Skip you Eric, my turn" (This may or may not have been said with some attitude)
Eric: "That's messed up!! You always skip ME!"
Katie: "Umm, but we're are the only ones playing..?"

That was around the last time we played Phase 10 together. I occasionally have heard comments from him that the reason why he stopped playing because he could never win. I know, what are we seven years old? I don't even let Patrick win if I can help it. We used to stay up all hours of the night playing. We actually played it so much that we started changing the order of the phases. Doing odd phases then even phases and vice versa.

There was one time when we lived in San Diego that Eric agreed to play Phase 10. At the same time Eric had given me one of his Percocet pills because I had a headache or something. Next thing I know I'm waking up - the next morning. My first question of course was "Did I win?" Eric had what I call his "sh#* eating grin across his face. He said "You sure did!!" It had turned out that I had passed out on the couch sitting indian-style while shuffling. Nice Eric....I'm starting to think he had that one all planned out.

The only reason why I rant about Phase 10 is because the other night my husband was caught playing it! With my family!! I have a picture to prove it.

When I first glanced at this picture I thought "Oh how nice, everyone sitting around the table talking." Then as I looked closer.."wwhHHAAT!? I can spot a Phase 10 card..." This my friends, is a picture of my siblings playing Phase 10 together...with my husband. It first appears that Eric isn't playing, but I asked - and he did play. Where am I you ask? At school..how convenient...I'm not bitter or anything...

This is just one of those situations where I have to look on the bright side; maybe Eric has been able to move past his grudge/losing streak and will start playing regularly.
