New Year

I love starting the year off on a good note. Normally our office closes early on New Year's Eve, but since New Years' day fell on the weekend we were given a floating day. We could either chose to take Friday (New Year's Eve) off or Monday (the day that everyone dreads). I chose to take Monday and spend the day with my family.

Judging by the fact there was only 10 cars on the highway; I am pretty sure that I was one of a few that chose to work on New Year's Eve. Quiet days usually turn out to be the best days to work. My 90 minute drive only took 65 minutes - HOT DOG! I can also get caught up on the many things that have been lurking around on my desk.

The downside to working in a "Career Center" (also known as a cubicle to normal people) is that there are no windows. On really nice days, I try to convince myself that it is raining like cats and dogs outside so I don't spend my days dreaming about what I could be doing outside instead of working. Unfortunately, that doesn't always do the trick because then I start to think about how on rainy days I would like to be in my jammies watching a marathon of Friends or Charmed. (Yes, my kids will watch both with me.)

The weather in Missouri will keep a person on their toes. At the beginning of the week we had snow. By New Year's Eve we had a high of 68 degree which then quickly turned back to freezing temperatures, but not without having a Winter Tornado on Friday.

I left work Friday hoping to begin our Harry Potter-a-thon to ring in the new year. Some how my set of Harry Potter movies was misplaced...hmm. Not too worry though, I had bought the Twilight movies for Christmas so I had a backup plan.

My long weekend consisted of cleaning our entire house. It was invigorating! Am I weird that I really enjoy cleaning? It wasn't the normal Saturday morning cleaning - I shampooed carpets, washed base boards and even ventured into the basement. Eric and I have moved seven times (I think) since we've been married. Of those many times there have always been boxes that have moved with us that were never unpacked. These boxes up until now have sat in the same spot for the last six years. We kept saying "Yeah yeah..we'll go through them..one day.." That one day was Saturday. We moved so many times that we had forgotten what was in the boxes. I found my wedding shoes, ring bear pillow, year books, and some really old pictures and memorabilia. I even found two boxes of DVD's - how on earth did we miss unpacking them?

Since finding these boxes of movies, it brought about the fact that we don't have anywhere to put them. I have wanted some sort of shelving unit for all of DVD's and CD's. For the last six years we have been conveniently storing our DVD's in laundry baskets and tubs around our bedroom. Eric has issues with buying the cheap particle board units from the stores - he's been saying that he would prefer to build one. After talking about it for four years he finally built it!! Here is a picture of it. We filled it up so fast that we are already debating on how we are going to add on to it.
