I like to think that my life is like a series waves.
Stage 1 - Calm Seas: I started to get things accomplished that I have been putting off for quite some time.
For example: After getting a salon gift card for my (March) birthday I finally made an appointment to get my hair cut. Since our household enforced a budget I haven't had a haircut in almost a year. Quite frankly, there's a certain point when a woman's hair just cannot be styled or tamed. I have been past that point for some time now. I've been sporting two styles: 1) Ponytail 2) Professional Pony Tail aka:when I have take my wet hair and quickly twist it and put one of the JUMBO over sized clips, and then somehow figure out a way to get my fingers out of pile'o'hair without having to redo it. God help me if it falls during the day and my hair is dry - it's a nightmare.
I'm not sure who was happier to walk through the salon doors- me or my hair stylist, Abby. She always takes good care of me.
Before picture, like March After Picture...and...5 lbs. lighter...
Stage 2 - Rising Wave: This is when a bunch of little blessing happen. For me this was:
- Getting to take 3 naps with the boys over the holiday weekend.
- Quintin taking the next step and beginning potty training.
- The boys and I having "movie nights" 3 nights in a row with Popcorn AND Milkshakes.
- Not having to run to any baseball & soccer games / practices
Stage 3 - Peaking: This is when things start to fall into place. "Life is good."
No example here. See, life is good.
Stage 4 - Cresting: Good things that have fallen into place are accelerating.
This past weekend I was able to clean the whole entire house. That included mopping, dusting, and bleaching whatever I could get my hands on. What falls into place? While cleaning Eric got a wild hair in which he decided we 'needed' to clean behind the stove. Well of course we do! You're not going to get a complaint from me. At least he's not watching me clean, right? We found Patrick's Nintendo DS that he lost 2 years ago!! We could hardly believe it!! After we were done celebrating it hit us. We then began to wonder how in the world did it manage to get under the stove? Oh well, back to celebrating!!!
On top of Eric helping me clean, he did of the laundry!!! It's Thursday and I'm still in shock. Normally when he helps with the laundry; he'll wash, dry, but never folds.
This is where the acceleration part kicked - we ALL went to the store. I say ALL because it included Eric. He never goes with us!! He will always opt out to stay home and clean a gun or watch the History Channel.
Stage 5 - CRASH! This is when all hell breaks loose. If it can go wrong, don't worry, it will....
The kids and I took the "drill Sergent" to Wal-Mart. Oh my my...it didn't go over very well. We hit his first level of irritation before we even parked. Pulling into the parking lot this is what I heard:
"Park anywhere. Don't go for your crazy parking rule that you HAVE to get one of the first 7 spaces"
Geeze...point taken Drill Sergent...(I'll refer to Eric as DS) Unfortunately because DS doesn't go shopping with us, he doesn't know the rules. The number one rule when taking children (our children) shopping is: Always start at the bathrooms. There isn't anything as irritating as having to haul buns to the bathroom in the middle of shopping. Waiting for kids to go potty, there went the second layer of irritation.
I think DS must live in this fantasy world....in this world his kids knew that they were suppose to walk in a straight line, stay to the right, and stay out of peoples way. I don't think I learned the rule for staying to the right until Middle School. We have a few years. Heaven for bid someone other than DS get to push the cart!
I have limits for my children. Believe me, they need them as much as I do. But the difference between myself and DS is the way we deal with the chaos. I'll admit he's making progress...but that trip to Wal-Mart started my wave to crash.
