Summers' Challenge...Bed Time

Bed time has been a challenge for us for a few weeks now...it seems impossible to get the boys to sleep before 9:30pm. We're big sticklers for the 8-8:30pm bedtime. We need our peace and quite time.

Unfortunately at 8:00pm the sun is not completely set and the boys have a hard time accepting the concept that it's bed time. The way their minds work: if the sun is awake they should be awake, right?

Not only is GETTING to bed a challenge, but KEEPING kids in their beds has been an even bigger challenge. Eric and I have been taking turns chasing kids back to their respective beds and its getting old. We have been threatening spanking, but as it turns out, spanking doesn't have the effect on our kids that we were hoping for. For example: I carried Wyatt back to his bed and I proceeded to tell him in my stern mommy voice to STAY in his bed. He giggled and put his butt in the air and said to "Mommy...you goin' spank my butt...??" ..Well, I'm NOT now!! What??...Seriously?? Do I not have any impact or effect on him?? Clearly there wasn't a smile on my face when I instructed him to stay in his bed. Shouldn't kids have some sort of fear of getting trouble by their mother? I can't even use the line "Do I need to get your dad in here?" Guess what, they do the same thing to Eric too!

We then decided to put the baby gate up in the doorway to Quintin & Wyatts' room thinking Aha! Problem solved!! We've done it!! No, they didn't think to climb over the gate, they began to scream and cry at the gate into the hallway. You'd think I turned the lights off and shut the door on them! My goodness....As soon as Wyatt began screaming "WE TRAPPED!! OH NO!! WE TRAPPED!!" I couldn't do it. I felt horrible and I ended up taking the gate down. I know now what to threaten them with...hehehehe....

One night I decided that since they were still awake, I'd take a few pictures of them.

See! They weren't asleep..They were up and playing together!!

BUSTED!! Get in YOUR bed!!
