Two steps forward...One step back...

Do you ever feel like you have your 'Skinny Days' and 'Fat Days'? Well, today I'm having a Skinny Day. It's blue jean Friday at work and I was really excited to find out this morning that I could fit into a pair of jeans that I haven't been able to squeeze into for quite some time now.

I guess that means goal #1 - getting in shape is kinda working. I say kinda only because the only exercise I've done is: Sexercise, an occasional squat and lunge during the 15 minutes it takes to do my hair and make-up in the morning. It's not much, but it's helping...I am trying really hard to to persuade Eric to sexercise more often....ahh..the days before 3 kids.

Aside for sexercising, I have been eating better. I have even signed up to do a walk for the Colitis Foundation in May. Things that have helped me to lose weight are:

  • Not eating after 7pm (This one is hard on family movie nights)
  • Eating smaller portions of food during meals
  • Having healthy snack breaks at work. Eating an apple, orange or hard boiled egg
  • Dinner on my school nights no longer consist of a King Size Snickers Bar & XL Diet Coke from the gas station. (Am I the only person that feels that chocolate and Diet Coke go hand-in-hand?)
  • Not eating Fast food anymore....I bet McDonald's misses the Manlove's...

With only do these few things I've already lost just over 10lbs.

Working towards my other goal, Financial Freedom, I've decided that I'm going to start growing my own vegetables and save some money on my grocery bill. I've been talking about it for a few years, but its usually in the middle of the summer and it is too late. What better time to start preparing than now. I'm working full time, going to school full time; what's one more log on the fire!

The very day that I made the decision to proceed with the vegetable garden I also had to pick Patrick up from a birthday party. When I was there, I met some other parents. Get this - not only do they live in our wee little town of Winfield, BUT they literally live down the road from us!! We started talking about 'country living' and they are going to be able to help me with the garden by giving me manure & compost!! I never knew I could be so happy about poop! Regardless of the manure, we really hit it off and found that we had a lot in common. I think we may start hanging out.

Two steps forward, one step back...we had turned off our land line to save money. We figured that we had our cell phones and it wouldn't be a big hassle. Well, it turns out that our cell phone coverage with a company that rhymes with "Sprint" gets really crappy if not NO coverage at our house. We were only able to get a signal if we were in the bathroom sitting on the toilet OR laying in our bed with our head facing to the west...really...I'm not kidding...After almost 3 months with no communication while at home, the last straw was this past weekend. Quintin decided to play with our alarm system. He unknowningly slid a chair over to they key pad and began to randomly hit the "Fire" "Police" and "EMT" alert buttons. The alarm began to wail; we turned it off, but the security company couldn't get a hold of us to see if everything was okay, so in turn they called my parents house and freaked them out. Of course, with no signal my parents couldn't get a hold of us either...Long story short....Land line is back on with the same number as our old one.
